Calm day

Even though the day started out with some drizzle and clouds it wound up being another glassy calm day on the water. Fortunately the drizzle stopped shortly after we left the dock and we made our way over to the west side of San Juan Island where the Orcas were reported to be. We traveled south along the island watching the whales calmly move along. They were in no rush as they occasional changed direction and milled about. Their slow pace offered some wonderful views of these amazing animals.

After our time with the Orcas we stopped near Long Island and to our surprise saw 5 Bald Eagles!  There were two adults and 3 juveniles. You can tell the difference because the adults will have the white heads and tail feathers where as the juveniles are all brown with some white speckling. At approximate 4-5 years of age is when their head and tail feathers will become solid white. We circled the back side of the island and observed some harbor seals enjoying a mid day rest. Observing all these resting/ calm animals wore us out.....back to the harbor we go!
