Should I bring my car to the island?

You do not need to bring your car across, in our opinion. There are many ways of getting around San Juan Island, and the small town of Friday Harbor is walkable. San Juan Safaris is just steps away from the ferry landing. Bicycles, mopeds and scoot cars are for rent near the ferry landing, and a shuttle bus can get you to the other side of the island.
