Getting to San Juan Island

Located just 90 miles north of Seattle, the town of Friday Harbor on San Juan Island is an easy day-trip adventure from downtown Seattle. Getting here is half the fun!

The city of Anacortes is the gateway to the San Juan Islands. If you are driving from downtown Seattle to reach Friday Harbor for your San Juan Safaris whale watch & wildlife tour, Anacortes is the starting point for traveling via ferry to any of the San Juan Islands. 

Below are driving directions, and other options, for getting to the ferry landing in Anacortes. The Anacortes Ferry Terminal is located at 2100 Ferry Terminal Road, Anacortes, WA 98221.

If you are driving, you must take the ferry from Anacortes to Friday Harbor to reach your San Juan Safaris whale watch & wildlife tour departure location. All tours depart from 10 Front Street Suite #102  Friday Harbor, WA 98250.

Driving Directions From Seattle

Allow at least 2 hours driving time.

Take Interstate 5 north to the Burlington exit, #230. Turn west (left) on Highway 20 until you reach Anacortes.

Once in downtown Anacortes, follow the signs (San Juan Island Ferries) to the ferry landing. Ride the ferry from Anacortes to Friday Harbor, San Juan Island to meet your whale watch & wildlife tour departure.

Driving Directions From Bellingham

Allow 1 hour driving time.

Take interstate 5 south to Burlington exit, #230. Turn west (left) on Highway 20 until you reach Anacortes.

Once in downtown Anacortes, follow the signs (San Juan Island Ferries) to the ferry landing. Ride the ferry from Anacortes to Friday Harbor, San Juan Island to meet your whale watch & wildlife tour departure.

Driving Directions From Port Townsend

If you are driving, you will need to take the Keystone Ferry. On extremely low tides, this ferry cannot run, so be sure you check schedules carefully. We keep a tide chart, so ask us about the tides.

This ferry will land in Coupeville on Whidbey Island. From here, take Highway 20 north to Anacortes.
