We see more whales than any other tour
Our Promise to You
When you join San Juan Safaris on a whale watching tour, you’ll have a great chance to observe Orca whales in their natural environment. Our Coast Guard inspected vessels travel farther and faster than other tours, allowing you the best chance to see whales and other wildlife.
Our tours are never crowded, and every tour is staffed by an experienced naturalist and knowledgeable tour guides. Plus, our smaller tours mean more room to roam on the boat and a more relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone.
We can’t wait to show you the wonders of the San Juan Islands!

Absolutely fabulous! The best whale watching I have ever experienced! I have never seen so many pods of orca whales, so close and active. They seemed to enjoy us as much as we enjoyed them!
Fantastic captain and crew, very professional! We saw a humpback whale, harbor seals and sea lions. And of course we saw a lot of orca whales including a mother with its baby!
What should I bring on my whale watching tour?
A hat, sunscreen, camera, and plastic water bottle are a few of the things you should bring with you. If you forget your raincoat or binoculars, don’t worry, we have ones you can borrow. Just don’t bring tobacco products or alcoholic beverages! Learn More.
How long are your whale watching trips?
Our whale watching tours are around 3 hours long. Our boats travel nearly 20 miles per hour. That allows us to cover lots of ground (so to speak) and show you as many of the whales and other animals that call the San Juan Islands home as possible.
Are private group charters available?
Yes, we love hosting private charters for company trips, wedding parties, and other group outings. We can even arrange for your travel via seaplane from Seattle. Learn More.
Is there a bathroom on board?
Yes! Our two boats, the Sea Lion and the Kestrel both have clean and modern bathroom facilities.
Is there an age limit for your whale watching trips?
Everyone, no matter their age, will be amazed the first time they see a whale in the wild. We do ask that children under 2 years of age remain with their parents in our heated cabin, or be carried in a secure baby carrier. Don’t forget: Children under 2 sail free!
