Kara was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. After many summers hiking in the Wyoming wilderness throughout her youth, Kara grew to love and appreciate the natural environment, and knew she wanted to dedicate her career to protecting the environment for people and generations to come.

Kara graduated from the University of Vermont with a B.A. in Environmental Studies with a concentration in Ecology and Conservation. While at UVM, Kara participated in an abroad program in Queensland, Australia where she studied the dynamics of rainforest ecosystems and the potential impacts of global climate change on the area. Since graduation, Kara has worked in water and resource conservation in Boulder, Colorado.

Outside of the office, Kara loves wildlife photography, hiking, kayaking, travel, live music and spending time with her Australian shepherd. Kara is excited to join the crew and enjoy everything the beautiful San Juan Islands have to offer!
