Guaranteed Whale Watching?

Friday Harbor on San Juan Island, Washington, near Seattle.

Whales Guaranteed?

How can anyone give this guarantee on wildlife? Read between the lines. Wildlife is just that, wild.

By whales, a company might mean any kind of whale, gray, minke, a porpoise or a dolphin.

Gray and Minke whales spend perhaps 30 seconds at the surface for air, then 5 - 15 minutes below feeding. They are beautiful animals, but not gregarious. We all love these animals, but the expectation is to see ORCA whales. People come to the Pacific Northwest to see the Orca Whales. That is what we are known for.

Whale Watch Operators that 'guarantee whales' are set on satisfying their 'guarantee'. By doing that, the tour can miss many interesting and beautiful sights just to get a look at lone Minke whale who is far away.

By guarantee companies do not mean that you will get your money back. What you will get is a 'rain check' to go with that company on another day IF there is space available.

Some companies make you go back to their office and stand in line to retrieve this rain check.

The only company that can truly 'guarantee whales' is Sea World.

You will also find that the companies offering this take more than 80 guests, some 140 or 200 guests on their boat at a time. This makes the tour less personal and gives a cattle car feeling to the boat.

San Juan Safaris guarantees that you will see wild marine mammals, become educated about our Salish Sea, go home with a better appreciation of all wildlife and life-long memories.

Why be herded when you can be guided?

Why San Juan Safaris?

No tour operator sees whales more often than San Juan Safaris - 95% or better. Our whale watching boat Sea Lion is 55 foot, new and fast.

With only 40 or fewer guests aboard, there is plenty of room at the rails or in the windowed cabin for everyone.

Knowledgeable marine naturalists will inform and amuse you. Our crew loves their work and it shows. Guests tell us that the staff is attentive, warm and friendly.

San Juan Safaris is proud of its reputation for strictly adhering to the 'Whale Watching Guidelines' and for respectful wildlife viewing ethics. The owner has been in the wildlife viewing business for over forty years!
