Anna jumped off the boat to tell me that she and Capt. Cal (and the Kittiwake) had just returned from seeing J pod. They started out just north of Lime Kiln Park. The pod kept traveling north up to Roche then past Roche further north. Anna said they all had many good views of all members of the pod and especially of Ruffels. They spent some time viewing and talking about the Cormorant rookery and the Eagles nest.

Traci says: "We had an amazing day with J pod, several good looks at several females and calves, 6 - 8 breaches, tail lops, cart wheels, a belly flop and more. Ruffels was present too." This was off of Stewart Island, then the orcas headed to Canada. Traci says that they also saw about 12 - 15 Dalls porpoise, 2 - 3 on each side and some riding the wake. "They put on the most amazing show today, coming at us from all angles" Traci says: "We were a Dalls magnet today. It was crazy." And the usual Bald Eagles, Harbor Seals, Common Murres, Rhinocerous Auklets and tons more we out today also.

Margo just popped into the office and says "We just saw L Pod!" As they were approaching, 4 breaches, a spy hop and lots of tail slaps. Captian Brian Pouillion phoned in to say "WE ARE SURROUNDED" (by L pod). They went all the way to Salt Spring Island (Canada) today. Margo says they also saw Bald Eagles, (no Harbor SEALS!) &Rhinocerous Auklets. Since they had to drive so far today most of their time on the water was not near land, so many of the smaller critters were not seen on this tour, but the whale experience was incredible.
Colleen has not been very good about writing the Captains Log lately, but just about every trip out has been seeing Orca Whales.

Naturalist Margo just arrived off the Sea Hawk and says "we saw 60 harbor seals, a bald eagle ripping up something to eat, J Pod - J-26 (Mike) J-19 and her calf J41, spyhop, tail slaps (lots), breaches - lots of activity with the Orcas today. This all happened 2 - 3 pm at the southern most part of San Juan Island.
